A Hundred Year Deadlock of an Old Friendship

The International Symposium of Turkish-Armenian Relationship:

Social Memory, Prejudices and Truths

The Ottoman Empire, the dominant power of Anatolia which possesses cultural and historical accumulation for centuries, went through a painful process in the 19th century during which the Empire were in economic and political predicaments and tried to overcome them. In the beginning of the 20th century, the dynamics raised and maintained the process would make it impossible for the Empire to hold its territories together since they had gradually become an ethnic and religious junction that was difficult to rule.

The junction that was a part of a great whole and the upheavals, conflicts and fronts around the junction paved the way for polarization in the east ofAnatoliaand social disintegration.

Within the frame of the symposium where the polarization lasted for over a hundred years is going to be discussed in a detailed way by academics, opinion leaders, people of letters and artists. The aim of the symposium is to enlighten the future of both countries by discussing their common values, experiences and unspoken words on historical ground through the cultural, artistic, religious, ethnic, political, economic and legal aspects.

In this context, the papers to be presented in the symposium “A Hundred Year Deadlock of an Old Friendship The International Symposium of Turkish-Armenian Relationship: Social Memory, Prejudices and Truths” which is going to be held by Akdeniz University, are expected to evaluate the reciprocal relations of the two countries in the historical process in accordance with scientific criteria.

The language of the papers to be presented in the symposium is to be either Turkish or English. The abstracts will be evaluated by the Publication and Regulation Board and they should be prepared by considering the symposium schedule and the points in the Paper Abstract Form within the scope of themes.
